The Shadows

The earth's Moon is clearly a different world than our own. For example, the gravity on the Moon is about 1/6th that of Earth. This would clearly make for some spectacular dunks should they ever decide to build a basketball court there. And although the Moon has an atmosphere, it is so slight that it is considered by NASA to be insignificant.

To me, the most stunning feature of the Moon is it's shadows.... When Apollo 11 astronauts first set foot on the Moon, it was clear that the unfiltered sun cast deep, dark shadows unlike any found on our atmosphere rich Earth.....

These shadows have caused conspiracy theorists across the globe to declare that the Moon landing was fake, since some of the shadows appear to move in conflicting directions - an impossibility from a single light source! But the claims of fraud have since been debunked, especially since powerful telescopes can see the equipment and the tracks left behind on the lunar surface.  And YES, even the American Flag!

But the Moon's shadows hide all that they engulf. With no atmosphere, the sun shines bright, even directly on the horizon. Shadows tail long and black, and reflective light sinks into the dusty landscape, making the Moon's shadows a stunning contrast of bright light and deep darkness......

As visible in the incredible photo pictured here, "The Fractured Crater on the Moon", these shadows create a tapestry of dark and light.   A beautiful, yet eerie world!

                                --------------

In 2016, I wrote the song "Shadows". It is a significant song for me in that it attempts to bridge the gap between the two worlds that I live in each and every day. The first is the world of Tinnitus -- That screeching, never ending bit of horrific hell that lives inside my ears and my head at all times.  The second is the world of peace and tranquility - that moment when nothing matters but the softness of a pillow, or the whisper of the night breeze through an open window, or the shadowy silhouette of the full Moon seeping through the curtains in the darkness.....

                                The Shadows!

Indeed, The Shadows - that place that I desire to be, but can never achieve....

Through this song, with it's strong yet simple melody, I find that my mind can follow the notes out of the Tinnitus world and into the Shadows....

And for those short moments that I allow the song to engulf me..... I am at peace......
