My Friend Mickey:
My wife and I have never had a dog before, so when the opportunity arose to watch our friends dog for a week, we took the chance......
I'm told that he was a rescue dog from some 16 years ago. Meet Mickey!!
When we first picked him up, he was nervous. He rode in Jen's lap on the ride home, looking out while panting his hot breath on the window. Once home, he went into full explore mode. But with his trusty sitting rug and doggy bed, it didn't take long for Mickey to settle in......
It was a lot for us to learn at first, but after just a few days, Mickey was part of the family. He slept on the bed, hogged the couch, sat on my lap as I watched golf on TV, stared at me relentlessly as I ate dinner, and took me for frequent walks around the neighborhood. And although Mickey was 16 years old, he loved to play fetch with his favorite toys. After that, we watched Mickey for several more weeks.
The thing about Mickey was how much he loved life. He was always happy to see you when you got home, he would greet you in the morning, and he lifted you up if you were down. And when going for walks, he was the sniffer of all sniffers. If it was there, it needed to get sniffed.....
Recently, we got the sad news that Mickey had passed. A very sad day indeed. Some say "it's just a dog", but to us, he was our friend. We loved our time with him and we loved his zest for life.
I can't bring Mickey back, but I never want to forget how happy he made us feel and how much we loved him. So, I've done a little song to remember him by. With Mickey in the lead (he was always in charge of our walks), with his nose in the air and the breeze in his face, we're taking a stroll through the neighborhood....
I will miss you always, Mickey...... always!
