Artemis City

Science fiction novelist Andy Weir penned the name "Artemis City" when he wrote his futuristic novel about a resort city on the Moon. He tried to make the features of the city as realistic as possible, including Sky Domes that were half buried, and airlocks between each section of the city. Nuclear reactors provided the power, and the only crop grown was Algae, since it can be grown fast and with no land mass necessary.

Ironically, NASA named their current Moon mission "Artemis. Weir fans were excited to see Andy, who also penned the box office hit "The Martian", get this nod from NASA.

But NASA made it clear that the reference to "Artemis" had nothing to do with the Weir novel, but rather, was derived from Greek Mythology.  They

reminded us that is was the Apollo 11 mission that put men on the Moon.  And the twin sister of Apollo is Artemis, the goddess of the Moon......  NASA felt it was a fitting name for that day in the future when they put another Man, and the first ever Woman, on the Moon.....

I suppose if Artemis City does exist someday, it'll be heavily controlled with very few people actually living there.  But, as humans tend to do, I envision the normal progression of human development over the next few centuries.  First, we'll figure out how to get to the surface of the Moon.  Then, we'll figure out how to get more people there efficiently.  Then, we'll build more living quarters, then we'll bring in Doctors, and Dentists, and Hair Salons, and on and on.  Soon, we'll have cheap transportation to and from the Moon, with a growing, thriving metropolis bursting at the seams.  And in time, there will be a new resort built on the rim of the beautiful Tycho Crater, with stunning views of the lunar landscape and a Hyper Loop connecting it to Artemis City.

So, if you wish, come along with me and take a stroll inside the magnificent "Grand Central Skydome"!

Because this is Artemis City  --  The Capitol of the Moon!!!
